COOLUMN BEACH MENS’ SHED-HAND CRAFTED-FREE STANDING
BUTCHERS BLOCK
Over 30 hours of artisan labour was required to hand craft this butchers’ block out of high-quality Queensland Maple, New Guinea Rosewood and American Oak.
The cutting block is 45 mm thick and was assembled with FDA approved food safe PVA waterproof wood glue. Multiple grades of sandpaper were used, finishing with 400 grit, resulting in an ultra-smooth surface. Finally, soaked with food safe mineral oil and bees wax to protect and highlight the natural colours of the wood grain and then hand polished to a luxurious finish.
The stand is constructed using rebated joints, polyurethane waterproof glue and fixed with screws. This provides a strong and stable base which will last for many years. Again, many hours of sanding were employed to prepare the stand for its final finish of two coats of hard wax oil.
